Blackwicks Terms of Business
SHIPPING:
We offer inclusive shipping on all orders placed via the website. We use Royal Mail International in almost all cases. Please note that we cannot ship orders to a PO Box/commercial forwarding address or different address from that attached to the order unless agreed in advance!

CHECKOUT:
Card/Apple Pay/Google Pay checkout payment or Wise transfer welcomed! Paypal sometimes possible, please enquire for details.
LAYAWAY POLICY: We offer a free of charge layaway plan for most purchases, with flexible terms that are agreed at the time of commitment to purchase. Our most common payment plan is three equal installments, spaced one month apart, with the first payment due on ordering, but longer is often possible. We ask for a non-refundable deposit (first payment) on layaways which secures the item.
Due to the additional admin and interest-free credit that we provide at no extra charge on layaway plans, and the difficulty of UK imports, we do not normally accept the return of laid-away items so please check all measurements, photographs, condition reports etc. before committing to your purchase and feel free to ask for any further information about the item.
We reserve the right to cancel a layaway if the customer defaults on the agreed payment schedule (falls behind by more than a month) and a new schedule cannot be mutually agreed and paid on time. In this case, or in the case of customer cancellation, we will refund any payments made on the item after the deposit, the deposit remains non-refundable.
RETURNS:
We accept a return of upfront purchases for any reason, if informed within 2 days of receipt that they are not suitable, and shipped back ASAP. We do recommend reading descriptions fully to ensure a good match, to avoid unnecessary costs and shipping risks, and asking any questions if unsure.
We do not charge a restocking fee on returned items, but as our card processor does not return fees on refunded transactions, these cannot be returned (approx 2% via the website checkout). Although shipping is included in the cost price on most items, the actual shipping charge will also also deductible from the final refund amount.

The item must be sent back using a reliable, tracked method and whatever insurance/cover the buyer wishes to arrange as items are shipped back at the buyer's risk.
The processing fees also apply to customer-cancelled orders, or orders placed on unavailable items (i.e. item clearly marked as reserved for someone else, item marked as not available to customer's shipping destination, etc).

GEMSTONES/METAL CONTENT:
We are not qualified gemmologists but evaluate stones using a loupe and electronic thermal tester which usually gives a reliable identification or range of identification for stones; it is particularly good for telling gems from paste and for identification of diamonds, but 100% certainty about the exact gem is not always possible and we will always give a range of possibilities if we are not sure.
We test all metals using acids, an electronic KEE gold tester and sometimes an XRF gun depending on the item. Gold carat was often not particularly standardised during the 1800s and carats are always given approximately.
While all of these methods usually give a good and accurate idea of gemstone ID/approximate gold content, and we always describe as accurately as we can, they are not 100% reliable. Therefore, if the precise material ID is an important factor in your purchase please let us know when purchasing or immediately upon receipt, and we will give a two-week extended window for you to have stones/gold content professionally confirmed by your own trusted experts and will accept return requests within this time if they provide a result which does not agree with our assessment (for example substantially different gold content, or paste instead of a real gemstone), as long as the item has not been damaged, e.g. leaving noticeable file marks or stains on metal. If we are not informed about the intention to confirm and provided with results within two weeks then returns for this reason after this time is unlikely to be accepted, as antique jewellery is valued for numerous reasons beyond gemstone type/metal purity and if the item has been worn and enjoyed for a longer period it would be difficult to determine what refund amount would be appropriate.
To date we have never received any return requests or complaints due to misidentification, but we do encourage you to please take advantage of this confirmation policy if you have any doubts about buying online or non-hallmarked items.

PHOTOS/LISTING TEXT:
All photographs and listing text are copyright of Blackwicks and may not be reproduced or re-used anywhere else. Images of items remain our property and may be shared in our future marketing materials.
