These are so unusual!

Decorative Vauxhall glass jewellery was produced at the Vauxhall Glassworks in London from the late 1700s into the late 1800s and was probably sold in the adjacent, famous Vauxhall Gardens, a popular pleasure garden at this time. Also known as mirror glass, Vauxhall glass is known for its highly reflective and often richly coloured foil backing behind shallow faceted paste stones, which gives it a distinctive 'glow from within'.

These earrings ate to the mid-1800s (possibly pre-1842 as lacking the kitemark hallmark often used from this date) and are a wonderful bright flashing silver shade, formed as two circles with an interesting geometric shape to the surface of the glass which picks up the light in unexpected ways (and makes them difficult to photograph). So abstract and modern-looking!

While the backs are the gilt metal normally used in these pieces, the ear wires test as silver, making them suitable even for sensitive ears.

Surviving pairs of Vauxhall glass earrings are not easy to come by and these are such attractive, wearable examples which are guaranteed to be noticed!

MEASUREMENTS: 40mm total drop from the bends in the ear wires to the bottoms, 20mm diameter across the larger circles. Approx 6.2g each in weight.

CONDITION: Good, wearable antique condition. A couple of small surface and foiling imperfections on inspection, with a good even flash overall. Please view all close-up photos/video. Any display boxes are shown for photography purposes only.
