This stunning little work of art dates, we believe, to the earlier half of the 1800s, and is constructed in solid silver of approx sterling grade (tested).

The dove, swooping with a turquoise-set forget-me-not flower held in its beak in Saint Esprit style, is entirely three dimensional and realistically sculpted, one of the most lovely pieces of wearable artwork we've seen. Look at the plump curvature of those wing shoulders and the beautiful spread of the feathers!

To the breast of the bird is a snug little crystal locket compartment, currently housing a piece of blue silk. The body and wings are etched all around with feather patterns, and the eyes set with tiny rubies/garnets.

The pin attachment curves around the dove's breast and is well sprung, one of the more secure examples of its type.

MEASUREMENTS: Just a touch over 1 5/8" across the wing tips and 1 7/8" wing tips to beak (trianulated). 1 5/8" beak tip to tail tip. 11.8g in weight. Check measures as close-up photos sometimes exaggerate sizes.

CONDITION: Excellent, wearable antique condition - please view all close-up photos. The beak appears to list off to one side slightly (see last photo in particular), it's not clear whether this is a manufacturing quirk or perhaps a historical repair, but it's not easily noticed in wear. One eye is recessed and may be partially chipped - mentioned for accuracy.
