A really stunning, idyllic Georgian landscape artwork in sepia c1760, set in a 15K gold mount with clasp attachment to each end. The scene is both etched into the very slightly shimmery background (perhaps a disc of good clear nacre, or other natural material) and finished with artful sepia hairwork.
The detail on the scene is really superb, with a rustic cabin sitting next to a small river, flanked by very tall trees. In the background is a rolling hill with a tiny windmill on the crest. Little whorls of smoke escape the cabin's chimney, with birds circling overhead - there is a tiny jetty outside and a beautiful little ornamental bridge over the water. The detail on the trees, especially their trunks, is so fine. It's all perfectly clear and in in really beautifully-preserved condition.
Makes a nice change from a scene of a lady mourning at a tomb!
The clasp tongues are drilled with holes, so it can either be attached to strings of pearls or beads to make a bracelet, or even a nice broad ribbon. It could also be worn as a pendant in its current form by attaching a chain to the top clasp using jump rings, and perhaps without the bottom clasp - or a jeweller could convert it permanently to a pendant.
Exceptionally collectable - and with a little attention, very wearable too!
