These earrings are rather unusual and super-fun! The round, plump drops are carved from genuine, tested Whitby jet (ancient fossilised wood of the Araucaria tree), and each is adorned with a sweet silver (also tested) butterfly set with multiple clear 'diamond' paste stones.

Despite their bubbly, bouncy and bold appearance they are not very heavy to wear, as Whitby jet is a very light material.

The sterling ear wires to the top are likely more recent but suit the style well.

MEASUREMENTS: Approx 20mm diameter across the jet drops. 12.6g weight together.

CONDITION: Very good, wearable antique condition with no damage to the jet. There is expected oxidation patination to the silver butterflies (can be carefully polished up to a higher shine if you prefer). Some slight darkening (more of a peachy hue!) to the pastes in some lights but overall still a nice clear and sparkly look for their age. Please view all close-up photos.
