These lovely beetles aren't easy to find - and gold examples are a rare thing indeed! We've never seen a gold one before, only silver.

This one is modelled in solid 9/10K English rosy gold (tested) of a nice mellow shade, with fabulously realistic creeping legs complete with feathered knee joints. It is one of the earlier late Georgian - early Victorian examples with its gently dished settings, c1830 - 1840.

The perfectly carved segments of natural rock crystal are foiled inside to give amazing shades of peach, deep amethyst-like purple and vibrant red. The peach is really something and not a shade often found in jewellery of this era.

Exceptionally juicy and edible-looking, this critter is a great collector's item and very wearable - so much so that it may find itself creeping into my collection if it doesn't sell quickly...!

(The lovely snake chain which matches it so well is also available in this week's update).

MEASUREMENTS: 1 3/16" inches from top of hanging loop to tip of bottom. 5.2g in weight.

CONDITION: Very good, wearable condition for its great age - no chips to stones, no damage to gold. The purple foil has changed slightly over time to have a varying, nebula-like/lacy pattern of lighter and darker purple, which in my opinion enhances its charm. The peach and red are close to perfect for the age. The bail loop to the top is hinged, with a small range of motion, indicating possible historical conversion from a pin.
