This beautiful and quite uncommon, very collectable locket can either be left as it is - containing a lock of carefully tied blonde hair - or repurposed by the new owner, as the locket compartment can easily be re-used (we can remove the contents/hair before sending if desired, please let us know when ordering).

It's quite an early piece, transitional Georgian - Victorian era c1830 - 1840s, and tests as solid 15K gold. The locket is beautifully shaped as a lyre, which opens up on a hinge to the front, revealing the inner hidden compartment with its original unbroken glass. The front clicks back into place securely.

Beautiful and fine foliate engraving throughout, to both front and back. The strings of the lyre are each individually attached, and are in slightly different shades of gold, an attractive touch which we believe is deliberate

To the top is a good-sized faceted hanging loop, on two lengths of gold chain.

Remarkably wearable and collectable little treasure!

MEASUREMENTS: Approx 1 7/8" total drop when hanging from the loop, lyre section is 22mm north to south. 3.85g in weight.

CONDITION: Very good, wearable antique condition with the locket compartment fitting in smoothly and securely as it should. There are no dings or dents. To the front, a few spotlets of darkish solder can be seen where the strings are attached to the lyre - a quirk of manufacturing, mentioned for accuracy.
