A fabulously arresting pair of antique Biedermeier era earrings c1830, central European (most likely Austria or Germany) in origin.

Unmarked, tested as 14K gold, with a gorgeous eye-catching design of central silver scroll set with graduated natural Persian turquoises.

Surrounding this is subtle, quite ornate enamel work in black and white, which is in fabulous condition for its age with practically no signs of loss.

Rather than being symmetrically opposed, the designs face in the same direction on each earring, which seems to be a feature of some earrings of this era/origin.

The shape is wonderfully ornate and sculptural. To the rear are fabulous, original back-loading dormeuse (sleeper) fittings which click securely into place at the top back of the earring.

MEASUREMENTS: 40mm total drop, from the bend in the ear wires to the bottom of the dangling ball drop. 5.8g in weight together, so deceptively light for their nice size.

CONDITION: Very good, wearable condition for their considerable age, please view all close-up photos. Enamel close to perfect. A detailed search only brings up one extremely tiny impression at the very bottom of one earring, hard to see in wear, and some near-invisible pin-holes to the right side of one edge.

The turquoise scrolls have been applied in very slightly varying orientations, just how they were made and mentioned for accuracy. One of the hook fittings has a tad more sideways play than the other but still functions perfectly, again mentioned for full accuracy.
